Wrap Up 2009
We had a great Wrap Up party on June 3rd
to celebrate the tremendous year we had.
           
           
There was a great turnout!

Earl received a special recognization for bringing in
three new teams, which together raised over $5000

Even though the 2009 Relay For Life event has ended, the fight against cancer has not. Tonight we are going to pass the light….to keep the Relay spirit alive all through the summer and until we begin meeting again in the Fall. As we pass the light, from one Relayer to another, please read aloud the message of HOPE that you were given when you came into the meeting tonight. The Relay For Life dollars that you raised, and continue to raise, help keep the light of Hope burning and these important programs available in all our communities:

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --$361,643 is raised to support the fight against cancer thanks to the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers throughout our local communities.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division-- 67,852 people visit www.cancer.org to access information about cancer, opportunities to support the American Cancer Society, programs and services available in their areas, and much, much more.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division-- 10,737 cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers can access the Cancer Survivors Network for valuable information on survivorship and quality of life; opportunities to share their experiences with and learn from others all across the country.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division-- 5,940 potential employees are impacted through subscription services, providing employers with information about prevention and early detection of cancer, and support services and resources for those facing cancer.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division-- 2,876 calls are received by the National Cancer Information Center (NCIC) from constituents in the South Atlantic Division.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --$1,685 is invested in communities throughout the Division through college scholarships and community grants.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division-- 390 young cancer survivors are receiving assistance with their college education through a Champion Scholarship.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --131 people contact our South Atlantic Division Call Centers requesting information to assist them in understanding aspects of the cancer experience such as a diagnosis, the effects of treatment, or concerns about symptoms.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --128 research grants are active in the Division, conducting critical research to prevent, detect, and treat cancer.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --90 patients, on average, stay in our five Hope Lodge facilities – a home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --29 patients receive support from a breast cancer survivor, a ride to and from their cancer treatment, or a make-up and hair session to address the unique needs in these areas during cancer treatment.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --28.7 percent of the Division population is working in a business or living in a city, town, county or state that is smoke free.

On any given day in the South Atlantic Division --24 health care facilities are providing face-to-face assistance specific to cancer patients, often newly diagnosed, through a Patient Resource Navigator.
